The PEC meeting comes days after the ANC officially launched the Year of Nelson Mandela, on the 11 February, the day that Nelson Mandela was released from Prison, the PEC will also on a provincial level launch the Programme of the year in honour of this late great stalwart, the Programme will be communicated. It also comes a after the resignation of the State President, Comrade Jacob Zuma. The PEC made a thorough reflection on the special NEC and the events that have unfolded during these few days. The ANC in the Northern Cape welcomes the resignation of the President, we would like to express our gratitude towards Comrade Jacob Zuma for serving the people of this country. The PEC will this weekend, 17 -18 February 2018, welcome the NEC members into the province who will be coming to communicate the resignation of the State President to the structures.

The Province will convene a two-day Lekgotla from the 27-28 February 2018. The Lekgotla will be two-fold, as it will assess the state of the organisation and pave a way forward, and also assess the state of government in an effort to strengthen government ensuring that it continues to serve the people of this province. The Lekgotla will also prepare for the State of the Province Address.

The ANC in the Northern Cape has over the years a good and healthy relationship with its Alliance partners. The PEC has on this basis resolved to convene a fully-fledged Alliance Summit that will deal with the issues affecting the Alliance and governance. This summit will give the alliance partners an opportunity to learn from each other and to kill any impediment that might threaten the smooth functioning of the Alliance. The summit will also look into joint programmes towards the National Elections to be held in 2019.

Four regions in the province convened their regional conferences late last year. The regional leadership have to date not been inducted. The ANC The REC’s will be inducted in March. The induction of the REC will in the main focus on
1. History of the ANC
2. Constitution of the ANC
3. Strategy and Tactics as well as the freedom charter amongst others.
The ANC PEC would like to encourage all REC members to attend this all-important REC induction.
The IEC has declared the weekend of the 10-11 March, the first open voter registration weekend, where community members are encouraged to go out and register if they are not registered as of yet, but also most importantly for those who have registered to check on the voters roll whether they have been registered under the correct address. The ANC calls on all community members to go out in their numbers to ensure that they are correctly registered making them eligible to vote for the ANC during the 2019 General Elections.

The ANC would once more like to wish the Provincial Deputy Chairperson, Comrade Bentley Vass as well as Comrade Fufe Makatong on their appointment as Members of the Executive Council, we trust that the two comrades will advance the mandate of the ANC in their respective portfolios.
